This event will include two new stories told by people who wanted a different home option outside their family home, along with their family. The hurdles faced and the successes felt will be shared. One story describes the journey of a man who wanted to rent a nice affordable apartment near his family while being safe and supported in doing so. The other is about a young woman who lives her life in a wheel chair who wanted to move from a small rural based town into the city. It is about her journey along with her family figuring out how to secure an affordable, accessible home setting in Windsor and be supported. Both stories are about people who are participating in a Housing Task Force project which includes numerous partners.
As well as the story telling there will be time to for ‘table-top conversations’ and learning about various topics at different information stations/tables. There will be a few interactive demonstrations on safety features, information about planning for the future, more stories and an opportunity to give us feedback and ideas. The My Home My Choice Event Committee has taken the evaluations from the last forum and from other events and tried to design an evening that is responsive to what people and families have said they would like to see.
